Of course it makes sense. Always follow the money trail.

    • Good luck with tryouts. Hopefully it is not his final time around.

When my son was fifteen the northeast included PA and NJ. Combined their population is equal to Florida. This is without NY and New England.

        • Love this event!! Well ran, good player development feedback, great competition, great minor league baseball games to attend, and some of the best barbecue we ever had!

My son missed out last year due to COVID.

Were were thinking about last year's event the other day. Just about missing going back to Cary, playing in the complex, going to MiLB games in the area, etc. We just enjoy the area. When we saw some dates, had some mixed emotions. It is also the same dates as the Area Code Underclass. He got invited to the tryouts his freshman year last year. His goal has been to make the underclass this year. So he said he hopes he has to miss Cary. LOL.

One of the 14 year olds in our showcase organization was selected to the 15u development team. Was talking to him and his dad the other day and he said USA baseball decided to not send a team to the overseas event that is going on. So this year being named to the development team was really nothing other than getting your name announced and posted on the USA baseball website. That stinks. Hopefully they bring those boys in during a week and do some training with them.

            • That would be a good reason to miss , hope he gets selected.
              GOOD LUCK!!!

              • NTIS at the younger ages for most part ispre determined. There is corruption throughout baseball from daddy ball to travel teams favoring kids with multiple siblings in the system and sad to say exists in USA baseball. In the northeast there are a couple examples of ‘academies’ travel clubs/orgs owned by individuals that guess what are USA baseball coordinators/scouts/task force members. So of course they want to see their own boys succeed. Boys at that regional event that did not finish in top 10% were given starting positions and prime batting order at Cary. One boy who could not barrel up a ball in bp or in the games got special attention from task force members and even received an invite to the ‘special’ invite practice tryout on sat afternoon. Guess what he still couldn’t barell up a ball. Only reason the kid made it to Cary and took a spot of a deserving talent is because he takes private lessons with JB who is a USA coordinator at PS2 which guess what holds tryouts for the regional tryouts that gets you to Cary. The kid slow unathletic could not field any balls to his left or right - weak average arm and they had him starting at shortstop! I’ve coached for 15 years there were 3 athletic boys better suited for the special tryout on Sat that didn’t get an invite because they aren’t connected and don’t work with the coordinators in their $$ private facilities. They say tere is a testing day and work out on Tuesday - coaches and some task force member were watching but not taking notes. The average kid and parent thought these were tryouts testing day, etc. The real tryout with note taking from task force is a special invite only to about 40 kids on sat afternoon. There they have multiple rounds of BP from a pitching machine with multiple task force crew observing. To get to this boys receive letter saying their performance hasn’t gone unnoticed after only two games! But the boy on NE didn’t get a solid hit or make a decent play got a letter. Sad for the boys who earned an opportunity to show off further….takeaway unless your connected this is just a fundraiser. One parent an attorney said maybe mail fraud as they promise promote trtryouts that what we pay for but it was predermined.

Its a good lesson in life isn’t always fair. The chairman of the board of Ford Motor Company has always been a Ford. Do you think there have ever been more qualified people? In the long run kids end up playing where they belong. Don’t sweat the small (younger kid) stuff. Even in college ball a new recruit was brought in every year to replace my son. He tuned it out and kept hitting. He hit .300+. He was never replaced from the time he won a position mid season freshman year. Being athletic afforded him the ability to change positions every year. At some point the talent is so deep and the competition so tough winning out becomes more about resilience and mental toughness.

                  • Agreed great lesson nothing is truly fair - But with Ford you know they only take family - NTIS promotes open tryouts, metrics, etc. Lots of us hoped this would truly be unbiased - best of the best etc. With 250 kids from around the country why not actually run an unbiased tryout? Why not take the best athletes ? Why settle for the convenient? This the pipeline for America’s team for America’s pastime. Let’s be great - We used to be great as a country - Sad to see even this is askew like most things in this country sad to say.
But like everything else in life having a connection always helps….

Despite what NTIS actually is (a money maker) and what it claims to be (identifying potential Team USA talent) the best players make the Team USA teams starting at 14u. NTIS isn’t needed to identify players. Pro scouts have already identified these players.
