He's just doing his version of Mike Epstein's torque drill. The guy is on the right track, he's discovered that the body moves the bat, and that you need to keep the hands back as you start to rotate. He just does a poor job of implementing the correct fundamental.

He thinks he's found something new, and in reality he's just become aware of what MLB hitters do and have done for many years. They lag the bathead, keep the hands at the armpit a long time, and they rotate their body to accelerate the bat.

oh ok, well I knew that but he says to swing like that... if you get a slider to a left its gonna hit him in the elbow, and it looks riduluous I coudl see it working for a drill, but not swinging like that in a game.

Yeah, it's an OK drill, but you can't make every swing like that.

I can see it as a possible drill for younger kids who tend to disconnect (although I can see betters ways to do it), but the act of placing tension down onto the shoulder distracts from the muscle action needed to snap the bat forward at the end of the swing, or to adjust to pitch location. And I can't see you being able to scap load with that swing.

James, I would like to suggest that you stop for now. You need to stop filling your head with all this new info. Just relax, forget about anything new until you are able to spend time to learn them properly. Just go to tryouts and do your best with your current ability. If every kid came into the season perfect what would all us old men be doing with our free time. Be athletic and trust yourself.
