  • Intro and Question

Hey everyone I've been reading this website for a while and decided to create a profile and start posting on here. I'm fairly familiar with rotational hitting but I do not know the little things about it. My goal is to learn and master rotational hitting and I will be posting some videos of my swing when I can. My first question is what videos should I get to learn more about rotational hitting. I've seen you guys discuss Englishbey, Lau, Yeager, and a few others. Whos videos should I get and which ones are the best for someone in my position. It would also help if you could post a link as to where to purchase the dvds. Thanks in advance and I look forward to talking some baseball with you all.

p.s. Just a little about me: I'm a sophomore in High School looking to play varsity this upcoming season. I'm 6'0" 142lbs. and I live, eat, breath, sleep baseball. I play 2nd, third, and maybe SS (idk yet, my coach has talked to me a about it but nothing is definite)I also pitch. I also consider myself a metal bat guru so if anyone has any questions about metal bats feel free to ask.

Welcome... I'm in similar shoes as you (although I'm a freshman trying to make varsity).

    Anyway, a couple of thoughts...

Make sure you know the hanson rule. Remember this ALWAYS because it can be/ is a life savior. Anytime you get any advice, compare it to what the best hitters in the world do (ie. top hitters in the mlb).

Next, have you ever taken video of your swing? When people video themselves for the first time, people get amazed at what they can learn. Then, compare yourself to the best in the world. That is the best way to go about becoming a better hitter.

I'll PM some other info, and some videos...

Good luck, look forward to talking to you,

    - Connor

p.s. - post about your season in this thread: http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=73222

Talk about your practice and your route in tryouts...

O.K. thanks for the help. Yea I've taped myself once but didn't put it on the internet. I'm going to try and get a video up within the next month to see what you guys think and maybe you guys will see something I don't. Ok I'll post what's going on in that thread. Thanks again.

p.s. What hitting dvds do you think are the best for someone in my situation?

Welcome, PPII! It's an exciting time for you, and there are a lot of us old timers who wish we'd had the opportunity to get this kind of advice and knowledge when we were your age. (Heck, when I was your age, I wish I wasn't a 5'3", 130# kid trying to make the team as a catcher against guys who were shaving; I got all my growth in college.)

If you're competitive as a high school player, you've probably got a relatively sophisticated understanding of a swing, regardless of whether you actually throw around all the high-falutin' terms many of us do. I remain an awoved devotee of Steve Englishbey's teachings; others have disputes with some of his higher level cues, but, for the level I teach (13-14 year olds), the distinctions are beyond their skill or concern levels.

GoCards is dead right about comparing yourself to the best, but you'll need a bit more guidance to understand what it is that makes certain facets of their swings so important. To assess Englishbey's philosophies you can:

            (a) look for his posts here under his member name ("Steve Englishbey") by going here;

            (b) go to his web site and look through the public discussion threads to get a feel for what he posts, at length: http://www.englishbeyhitting.com; or

            (c) pay $29.95 for his basic swing training video, available here: http://www.englishbeyhitting.com/products.html

Other top instructors are Mike Epstein (Epsteinhitting.com) and Chris Yeager (http://www.dryeagersbaseball.com). I'll let their adherents promote them, as I don't know enough to speak to them.
sigpicIt's not whether you fall -- everyone does -- but how you come out of the fall that counts.
