I see the knee bend / crash a lot. If the lead knee must straighten at impact then it must have the bend ( and the spine angle ) to get on plane with the low pitch. If you stand up and wait too late to adjust to a low pitch you will be bending your lead knee during the swing and the bat will be traveling about 28 MPH

Reading about this "spine tilt" and seeing the pictures has really helped me lately. Last year I bought a DVD and the guy said you need to bend your knees to get to the low pitch and I threw the DVD in the ash heap. But this spine tilt has a hold on me and I'm working with it.... Thanks again to those who post pictures and video.

funny i told the guy yeah we are stepping to the ball allright and the ball is comming from the pitcher.he STILL thinks you step outside to hit an outside pitch and step inside to hit a tight one.lol.

as our third base coach as well it took me three years to convince him not to steal third with no outs.lol

This is about as much tilt as you can get. This pitch was down and in to Manny, and he hit it out to left.

A mental image that unfortunately I cannot post, but did witness was some 6' plus strawberry shake loving man in black hit a ball off a tee that was set up probably mid calf on him. Hit a lazer that darn near took the back screen out of service. Challenging kids that had no spine tilt to just make it to the back screen and they couldn't do it (the ball would be in the mid to lower of the strike zone on their smaller frames).

Stepping to the ball works quite well...in slow pitch softball. You are right. No time.

Here is a clip showing varying degrees of tilt for three different pitch locations.

I can't possibly be understanding what you mean, here.

I can't find one clip where an elite hitter DOESN'T tilt the torso. Do you mean something different when you say "tilt the spine?'

    Step to the BALL?

This is the newest catch phrase i heard at the cages yesterday.this guy contends on an outside pitch the batter will step more outside, etc etc.I said gee he has one half a second do you really think he steps to the ball?
