nothing of what your saying is Epstein!! If he is using an older Epstein insrtuctor its possible he will not get off the backside as well, but he is not being taught to squish the bug either. There is no step 5 of 7. He might be on day 5, but he would be much more polished if he were on day 5. It is possibly the kid is not grasping what the instructor is teaching and is still confused on the new info.

My method is to start with "grip it and rip it" and work from there.
Today I gave batting advice to my 8 year old's teammate's dad. The 1st words I said to him were, "If anyone gives you or your son batting advice look at slow motion video of the best pros to make sure it's good information." I also referred him here.
