    The total swing is elipical, no matter how rotationial we try. But at the point of contact, there is an instantainious circular path. I think the center of this circle is at the front elbow, which is why its bent, so thats its easier to make slight adjustments in mid swing. As opposeded to an arm bar, which will lengthen the radius of the circle, give a longer and harder to swing bat.
