Catcher's mask preference

Just wondering, catchers, what style of mask do you prefer? Original, Baseball, or one of the lesser used types?

I no longer catch, being a lefty, but my first mask was a hockey-style and I always preferred them. I played some deck hockey as a kid, so that may be why. They also seemed easier to remove and put on.

Might as well get the hockey style mask since all catchers should use helmets with ear protection in high school. A mask and skull cap without ear protection is illegal.

If you notice, pretty much NOBODY at the pro level uses hockey-style masks any more. They all use the old-fashioned mega padded models with a shell hat.

That is because a study came out a year or so ago that linked hockey-style masks with much higher levels of concussions.

i prefer the traditional style. i use it in practices and leagues that dont require the hockey mask. its much more comfortable and easier to flip off.

obviously for hs i use the hockey mask
