  • Thanks... 1st game today...

We had our season opener today. A small 8 team tournament.
Currently I am hitting in the 7th slot.
Had a bad end of the season and didnt have a particularly good spring camp hitting.

1-4 had a walk. First at bat had a nice blast to center field to the warning track but the centerfielder played me deep. Popped up to the catcher the other at bat.

After the hit I Stole 2nd, Stole 3rd the catcher made a bad throw to 3rd took home.

This is starting my 2nd year here played on 2 teams last year and never been caught stealing except once in practice. I used to run a 4.45 40 and 10.5 100 almost 10 years ago.

No one has ever seen my style of stealing. I run before the pitcher sets up, if he has any hitch or hesitation I'm gone, if he is an off speed pitcher I'm gone, if the catcher isnt accurate or slow I run all day. After most games the other teams always say they are always caught off guard when I go. Most times they dont even bother throwing. And I never take big leads.

Still making adjustments on my swing I changed my grip recently and it made vast improvement I place 2 fingers under the knob. When I use the standard grips I tend to have my skin ripped off.

The improvement has come from this forum, all the discussions/arguments, vids, etc....

    Just wanted say thanks.

If the pitcher has a clue he steps off the rubber and you're dead meat. That's why no one has ever seen your style.

If.... Also not taking big leads disguises my intentions as well. I dont have the prototypical look for stealing deeper stances large leads...

Left hand pitchers on the other hand are a different if I'm on first.

If you leave that early on my pitcher the second baseman, first baseman or catcher yells "Step," the pitcher steps off and you're out by a lot. What level of ball is this? It sounds poorly coached.

this is recreational competitive. and they do have call outs normally its the shortstop most times the catcher and pitcher doesnt see it right away.

I am not saying every single time I use the same cues or tendancies but the element of suprise is key.

How many teams are in your league? It seems that word would get around pretty quickly to watch out for your technique. It would remind pitchers to take a look at the runner before stepping on the rubber, and then as soon as they step on the rubber.

TG, I like your "step" cue. Too often everyone yells "He's going!" and the pitcher gets flustered and balks. "Step!" tells him both that there's an emergency and what his first course of action should be.

Stolen! (Your tip, that is.) :applaud:
