  • Batting Gloves

my son uses batting gloves like paper towels,he rips his bottom hand glove in quick order, right at the seam like if your doing a karate chop. i guess he's tearing it on the knob of the bat. if i bite the bullet and pay some high dollar model would they last a bit longer like a few games? i've been buying like $20 models up to this point. some perferred model would be help full.

Expensive doesn't always mean longer lasting when it comes to BGs. What brand has he been using? The 15$ Franklins have lasted a very long time for me, and for games, when I actually do use gloves, the TPX Giambi's ($20) get the job done just fine.

Would he be happening to be using the low end Nike models?

I also use those Franklin's. They are very good.

No matter how much you sweat, they stay flexible and soft.

TL, It may be a grip tightness issue. I teach a grip strength 1-10. 1 is the bat can be pulled from his hands with no problem 10 being he's gripping the bat as hard as possible. When getting ready to hit he should be relaxed with his grip somewhere around 3. As he goes into his launch the grip starts to tighten so that he only reaches 10 at contact. Make sense??

I like the Rawlings workhorse gloves with the reinforced patch. I also work that spot on the glove so the patch keeps it from wearing out. Akadema and D-Bat also have gloves that are built up in that spot too. All of the gloves feel good and wear well for the money.

When I played in college, I could get 2 years out of a pair of Louisville gloves. I would get the kind that have the double palm.
