I'm wondering if I can get the following expressions explained - please dummy down the explanation. Thank you.

    Hitting:
    1)"keep hands back"
    2)"hands inside the ball"
    3)"compact swing"

    Pitching:
    4)"pronation"

Maybe this will help with 'compact swing'. I watched a college coach and one of his players standing facing eachother. The player placed a bat horizontally between the two and they held it with their stomachs, no hands. Once they were standing the right distance apart, the player removed the bat, then took a FULL swing.

I'd guess that keeping the hands back has to do with keeping the weight on the back foot and not starting the swing too soon.

Sorry, have nothing for the other terms.

Pronation - extend your arm in front of you, palm up. Without moving the upper arm now turn the hand over palm down. You have just pronated the forearm. If you do this in reverse order it defines supination.

What you see below is the result of a pitch that has been thrown such that the forearm forcefully turns over in pronation and the upper arm has also forcefully rotated inwards. The elbow 'pops up.'
