Teaching rotational mechanics can often turns into a "gate" type swing pushing the bat into contact instead of releasing the barrell. I know this because my 9 year-old has trouble releasing the barrell. For example, when asked to take a swing and release (let go of) the bat toward the pitchers mound, he naturally releases it to the pull-side of the field. I can get him to release it straight ahead, but it is not natural to him and I would love to get some input on how to make this release more natural....drills, comments etc. I am obviously missing something here in my teaching.
