  • Blur? I got blur

The H-I owner keeps daring someone to show blur without torque, tip and rip, swivel of forearms etc.

Well, I took the challenge. Here's a swing with plenty of blur.

I'm going to be 58 years old in May, I'm out of shape, not a pro, and I guarantee that my main focus was simply to yank the handle with both arms and get the knob around. There is no early torque, no tip and rip, and no swivel, but there IS blur.

It's your move H-I followers, how did I manage that?:noidea

I've included a link to the un-edited, uncompressed full .avi captured straight from the camera, it' 6.5 meg so it will take a bit for your browser to download. The .gif below is created from the .avi and has had the frame rate slowed and pauses added.

P.S. and this isn't even a great swing. I always have trouble for some reason, getting shifted and getting my hips going when I hit off of a tee. I didn't get the separation I would like, or the shift. I think the upper body is pretty good. I was trying to hit a line drive. If I was going for a HR, I would have tilted a bit more and got the hands to get above the ball more by contact time.

You torqued you just don't realize it. You also cast. All else looks good.

Another "I know what Your doing better then you do" comment.......

Well at least someone's confirmed that "torquing" and "casting" are synonomous......

There is no torque. In fact my style is to keep a very loose grip on the bat as I load. I don't even squeeze the handle until my back elbow is almost down. And, my focus on this swing because it was to prove a point, was to do NOTHING with the hands except pull the knob.

It is NOT torque that makes that blur, it's the bathead breaking inertia once the knob has moved far enough from its starting position to make the barrel move.

          Cast? Where's the cast?

I just wanted to get it started, I don't know one way or the other. I would kind of like to know why I should care. Or has all this just been an exercise in I know more than you know. I like Jim's stuff and he helped out a bit last year. Like I said I just wanted to be first, sorry.

Thank goodness you posted this. I thought maybe you had lost your mind.

You shouldn't care about early blur. It's just one person's erroneous analysis of how the pros get so much batspeed. I got blur, but I'll guarantee that my batspeed at contact ain't nowhere near what a pro's is, therefore, it isn't due to EARLY actions with the hands, it's something else. Like better hip rotation, better separation, stronger core muscles, and better rythm and timing of all the body parts. It has very little to do with the initial bathead movement.

Thanks Jim, the last thing I want to do is give the boy something else to think about in the box.

Oh, that should have been helped me out in the last post.

Jim, I noticed your posture does look like an MLB swing. Also, the bat path isn't going backwards like it supposed to, and you're kind of squishing the bug.

I hope I've diverted the subject far enough from barrel blur to make everyone lose the original point of your post.......

So what do you have to say about this bug squishing hmmmmmm??????

                      Jim

I see Posture,Connection and Rotation all throughout this swing. Could it be that these are critical components? Did you document the time and place of this happening - very important because I see a publication arising from this.

                      Good job !!!!

Jim, was your experiment observed by qualified scientific professionals in the field? Did they...wait, those scientist never swung a bat. NEVERMIND!

                          Jim,

I like the way you keep your front shoulder in there as you come out of running start. I see nice BHUT, tip and rip, and you turn the bat head with your hands and arms. Is it torque? Is it some manipulation of the bat handle with the hands and arms? Hmmm. Now don't go gettin' all uptight on me, Jim. Let's have a civil discussion without any name calling from you, eh? Don't be sore because you did not disprove my point about active hands in turning the bat head. Nice try though.

Jim - Do the same thing with a piece of white tape up the length of the bat.

Once we get this solved then we can move the discussion to the application of the front-foot big toe pressure.
