  • Rules for the pitcher

    Quite often questions come up on this board about balks and rules regarding the pitcher.

    Below is a link to a 10 minute streaming video that gives the basics about rules governing the pitcher. It is a section from my 2 hour rules video.

    Pitcher info;

        JBooth,

        Nothing shows how mis-undertood the first and most basic rules of the mound than the Marshall pitching mechanic by normally good umpires. Countless times year after year I hear field stories about how umpires challenge the legitimacy of the motion. They add in shoulder angle interpretations for the set position, foot angle position beliefs; don’t let them throw from either position at any time they want and many more. Umpires who have never considered or run into a live Marshall pitcher are normally confused because it’s a real surprise! We have broken down to having a meeting before the game starts with the ump to discuss the rules, when we do that the umps assure the managers that they understand the rules and then become an advocate You should see the opposing coaches with their confusion and beliefs!

        Has your umpiring group talked about this yet?

          What part of Marshall's mechanics cause problems?
