  • Small Golf Balls for Hitting drills

Curious on how many of you use the small whiffle golf balls for hitting drills. Also if you do, did you purchase a specific bat to use, I have seen several different bats, easton thunderstick, speed stick, etc. I have also seen that some people use a broom stick handle for this.

I do all the time, but I use my regular gamer to hit with. IMO, unless you can find one of those thin bats that is the same size and weight and weight distribution, it doesn't make much sense to use it. I would rather reinforce my mechanics by using my game bat to hit a small ball, than have to adjust my swing to swing a 20oz broomstick at the same ball.

My kids use the mini-golf balls and the swiftstik all the time as one of the hitting stations. The small light weight bat allows them to get lots of swings without getting worn out. The improvement in hand eye coordination is obvious and also there may be an overspeed contribution.

I think they are great to use with a regular weighted bat (thin or or game bat) as it promotes good tracking of the ball. The downside is if they ignore the rest of their mechanics because they are concentrating so much. I find they are most useful to me as a warmup before a game. Gets them focusing a bit.

We use whiffle golf balls for BP before travel games. My son uses them at home with his bat and a speed stick. When he was nine I sawed off a broomstick for him. With a little foresight and packaging I could have made a buck in it. Someone did.

I have a small bag of whiffle golf balls I get out from time to time. I bought a training bat at a Ripken coaching clinic I attended earlier this year. I'm not trying to be a salesman but this thing is great. It's basically a skinny bat which the kids can use for live batting practice.

My mistake is eight years ago I should have gone to Cal and asked if I could put his name on my $1 broomstick from the dollar store for a percentage and sell them for $10.

We use wiffle balls for one of our stations but we use a Dbat, It's heaver than a swift stick but lighter than a regular bat you can still get a lot swings in with out your form breaking down. One nice thing about the Dbat is the end of the bat has a larger sweet spot than the swift stick. We also find that the old kids don't whip the dbat around as much as the swiftstick. Here's the website www.dbatting.com

My son and I use the golf wiffle balls and a thunderstick. You guys might think im nuts but i also have him hit beans( the kind you cook). I just buy a cheap bag of white beans from wally world, they go a long way. I have him hit them with his game bat at first then challenger him on the thunderstick. Some days he blows me away but others days he hits fewer. It is really hard! Then when we go back to golf balls then real balls he says how can i miss. It really makes him focus.

When I was younger I did this and used a broom handle or the thunderstick works fine as well. Its a pretty good drill for working on hand eye cordination and see the ball all the way.
