  • HR derby Willie vs Mickey

Man, if you're a baseball fan, you have to watch this.

Being an old geezer, I remember watching this show every week when I was 9 and 10 years old, back in 1959 and 60.

Notice that they were real men. They didn't wear no sissy batting gloves. LOL

    Derby

Sporting News states Before a series in May the Los Angeles Angel PR people "eagerly surveyed the
distance from home plate to a two-story green house reposing
behind the left field wall and across the street from Wrigley Field:
If Mantle was to crack a tape measure job, the Angels were prepared. The
    distance was 436 feet......"

The house is the taller of the houses seen past the fence.

Just as I was thinking to myself how lame the announcer is, Mays tagged a homer to left center field and the announcer assured us it was a fair ball. Thanks for that, dude! Was Mantle forced to bat righty against a right-handed BP pitcher?

Just saw part 2.... I LOVE Mays' response to the announcer's comment at around the 1:50 - 2:00 mark of the video. Cracked me up.

No. He said at the start of the show that he would bat right because he thought he hit the ball farther more often from the right side.
