  • Golf while playing baseball

My 11 year old has taken up an interest in golf. Will swinging golf clubs during baseball season mess up his baseball swing.

nah. I've never had an issue. The swings are surprising similar.

I don't think it will mess up the baseball swing as long as you ensure he gets plenty of BP as well. A few kids I have personally known practiced and played plenty of golf during the season and their baseball swing gravitated towards a golf swing. Other kids who tool plenty of BP didn't have that issue.

However the kids who had more of a golf style swing..... throw them low and inside and wow, crush.

Based on personal experience, my baseball swing did damage to my golf swing mechanics.

This was when I was in college playing college ball, so I didn't care about the golf.

If you are taking plenty of extra tee work and BP (like you should be anyways) you should be fine. I didn't golf very often in-season, but I didn't notice any bad side affects, as all the extra work I did ensured my baseball swing was unaffected.

Funny that you brought that up, CH. Down and in is my happy spot.

During my first year of coach pitch I had a player who had a fair looking swing but couldn't hit a lick. Then one time I "messed up" and pitched in low and in. Crush city. I stopped and asked "You play golf?". His answer was "Yes". Aha. So during the year I'd work with him and pitch to him during games and if he got to where he only had two pitches left I've give them to him down and in and he had a much better chance of hitting the ball. On his first five pitches I'd give them to him normally.

The pros do it. Maybe his baseball swing will mess with his golf.....

If your on is getting enough reps on his baseball swing it shouldn't be affected by golf. If not, the possibility increases.

I think the baseball swing will mess up a golf swing, especialy for beginners. I believe they are 2 seperate swings. One thing golf will do is improve his hand eye coordination, but I dont think its good for the baseball swing. I wont even let my son play tennis during season because he will backhand the tennis racket like baseball swing.

Respectfully disagree, especially with youngsters. Let them play both if they so choose.

No I don't think so. If anything, it will increase his shoulder and arm strength, which could lead to more power in his baseball swing
