  • Padding for batting helmets

Im restoring a few batting helmets and having them custom painted. Does anyone know where I can get the padding to custom fit my sons head?

You can get a good helmet for $20 and you're restoring old ones?

You can get a good helmet for $20 and you're restoring old ones!

    I couldn't decide on punctuation.

Some people get plastic surgery for their wives when they could get a much younger one! So restoring a batting helmet doesn't sound too bad by comparison.

Dont mean to preach, but dont you think we have enough wasted plastics in our environment. Besides, my boy gave the third degree when I mentioned buying a new one.

At least you can burn the bats.

            Just a couple of things:

            1. You need to be careful about the types of paint you use. Some types will actually degrade the strength of the plastic and can result in catastrophic failure of the helmet upon even minor impacts.

            2. No helmet company that I am aware of will sell you the interior seperately, due to liability reasons. And having the right material, or actually combination of material, is crucial to the protection the helmet offers.

            3. While it is a noble idea to attempt to recycle these helmets from an enviromental standpoint, the risk far outweighs the reward in this case. Turn those old helmets into display pieces, trophies, lamps, etc.

Bottom line is that your head is worth more than $20.

True on all points. Thanks. Did you get my PM about your recent bat order?

                1 helmet will do nothing!

There are many worse ways that we are hurting our environment that 1 helmet will do little to know harm.

I like the mentality. "one helmet" , sure, it doesnt mean much in the grand scheme of things. One helmet from each little leaguer that would prefer to purchase a new hat each year, where to all of those helmets go.

You are probably the same kid that throws the trash in the street thinking, hey its only one candy wrapper.
