  • Update on my Kid

I've tried to pm some members about my daughter's season but wanted to share this since some of you have read various posts of mine. I'm very proud of her. She is playing with a torn hip flexior and so I'm am constantly amazed that she can take the field. Here is an article from last night's game.

I hope this is taken in the context it is meant and not as simple bragging. She has a long way to go before she is a player.

Apparently she has traits that will serve her well both now and in the future after softball. Hope the injury heals soon.

Outstanding, Darrell! I'm really happy for Brianna's success and I, too, hope she heals soon. You've got quite a player there, buddy. And from the sound of it, an even better person.

        Got get 'em!

Sure but it isn't nice. I played in an era when you could take the SS or 2B out on a double play. So, we were playing a conference game and I did a "roll slide" into the other team's SS. I broke his leg. A few innings later same situation, I did a "roll slide" into their 2B and he tried to jump. Well, I caught his foot and he landed on his arm as he flipped. That arm was broken. Therefore, in speaking to the newspaper, my coach said I went in like a "Cannonball." Thus the nickname which stuck with me the rest of my life. I don't live in the Alton area now but anytime I'm mentioned in the newspaper, they still refer to me as, "Cannonball." In walking up to the game, I bet I had 10 people yell "Cannonball" to me. It's good to return "home" once in a while to see old friends. The catcher for the team we played is the daughter of one of my former teammates and so, that was pretty neat. BTW, a "roll slide" is now illegal. Many of the older posters on this site can think back to when they delivered a good one to the other team's middle infielder. It was hardnosed baseball. The game has changed a lot since then.
