  • 70mph with a 2lbs Baseball!!!!!!

    Does this sound insane?

Let me just state for the record I am not suggesting that anyone try throwing a 2 pounder with one hand - it would be dangerous for a pitcher to attempt and potentially carreer ending.

Now having said that do you know that the top javelin throwers in the World have a release velocity of 70mph and the javelin weighs 2 lbs?

Unlike other javelin throwers I have always focused on my standing throw. This has always been frowned upon by the "Javelin Community" who focus on running up faster to gerenate more velocity. Now at the age of 46 I can still out throw almost anyone in the World of any age from a stand.

This is video of me throwing ( in my prime ) from a stand in 1985:

Worlds Longest Standing Throw? We don't know. You decide. This video was captured in May 1985 when Roald Bradstock through 75 meters from a stand still.

I also go against what most javelin throwers and coaches recommend. A lot them with throw weighted balls as heavy as 6lbs with one hand - which I think is very dangerous. I throw objects lighter then a javelin, much lighter infact - baseballs, cricket balls and golf balls. I believe throwing lighter objects ( one handed ) is what builds up and maintains arm speed. If I throw anything weighing 2lbs or more I will use both hands to stabilize the shoulders

So do you guys think throwing obects lighter or heavier than a baseball will help develop arm speed?

not sure about the answer to your question, but your mechanics look pretty much the same as a pitcher. WOW.

Unfortunately, I grew up in England, so I never got to play baseball. I came to States in 1981 when I was 19. I think if I had been born here I would have definately gone the baseball route!
