yes in highschool/legion i've experienced the same...but i mean overall poorly maintained fields can be extremely dangerous to the players....not only in the infield....but in the outfield with leg injuries. I know our outfield is used as a football/soccer/band practice field and has tons of holes that can probly mess up a leg or a knee pretty badly. I guess even fences can be extremely dangerous in a poorly cared for field. Actually now it appears to me after writing/reading the posts that a poorly maintained baseball field is a serious issue

its actually our highschool field...which is also an all dirt infield. During our highschool season it is groomed by the janitors daily, but when the highschool season ended this year they decided to take all of the grooming equipment and put it in storage...therefore our field is ungroomable and in the summer it gets rock hard from the rain/drying and extremely dangerous because of how hard and unpredictable the hops are. Not to mention diving for a ball and sliding is pretty much like diving onto cement.

And about the bad hop....it came up on me so fast i was on the ground before i even knew it even got me...I was at 3rd base by the way (Hot Corner haha). I just think think that after how hard i got hit in the face....i know that if someone gets hit in the neck/temple it can be a really dangerous situation. And everyone should make sure they are wearing a cup!

Bats are fairly easy to avoid or if your a pitcher at least soften the blow by covering up. Poorly maintained fields can be quite dangerous for instance .... very bumpy for bad bounces, poorly placed sprinklers or drainage systems, hills or lips on fields can result in players falling. There are many possibilities of how I field can be in bad shape.

I know that bad bounces are normal.....but isnt a badly kept field just a recipe for disaster as I can see broken noses/face bones(especially orbital?).

I dont percieve a cracked bat be very dangerous to adept fielders and is paying attention to the game. I do think a bad field can be somewhat dangerous because its unpredictable. On a grounder though, you should have your throwing hand proctecting your face and chest.
