  • bad timing -tell tale signs

What are the signs and cues a batter can see from swinging too early or too late. For example when there at the plate and a ball is fouled straight back mean swinging too late and maybe a pulled ball swinging too early. What is the best way to adjust timing?

I have a video of my boy last night swing late on a ball that went straight back. He got the next pitch to Centerfield though. He had a problem to start the year hitting everything to RF. We played a game in th cages, he got a point if he could hit it to the strong side and he lost a point if it went weak side. He beat the game the first time and I had to do push ups . I kept changing the rules to the ball having to be driven not a grounder to they had to get past me in the cage. Now his last 8 or 9 games this year he has had no weak side hits and he is starting to hit shots to the outfield instead of the grounders.

If a ball is "fouled straight back" that means they're "right on" - no timing issue whatsoever, they just need to "adjust their sights".
Now, if you're hitter is "early" or "out in front", this will result in a lot of "infield/shallow pop-ups", as the bat head will "drop" as they "reach for the ball".
As far as being "late"...maybe hitting a lot of ball into the opposite-field dugout.
