  • tryouts

My first day of tryouts for my highschool team were today.Three problems:
1.my front foot is wayyyyy to open on my swings. I know what im doing wrong, but cant seem to stop it.Really frustrating.
2.One of my best friends, and main competetor, is a real good power hitter, where i am not. but I think my fielding and speed are better. Is there ANYTHING i could possibly do?
3.Is there any tips to get myself noticed, besides constantly husseling?
1st cuts are decided after tomorrow, and i did solid today but I think I need improvment to make the team.Any help will be appricated.Sorry I dont have a clip of my swingh ,I might have one later.

I feel you dude, in highschool (before my swing improvements) i had limited power and always got passed up by the guy with power. Coaches love it, BUT, Hussle will get you a long long way and if you hit the ball hard and crisp and consistently the lack of Power can be overcome. Stay confident in your abilities while trying to improve them, just don't try to be something you're not to soon. Good Luck

        Hustle hustle hustle

If there's dead time get a ball and tee in front of a net and get in some whacks. When everyone else is leaving your're the one whacking the ball into a net... Other guys are standing around waiting their turn, you're the one taking dry swings or having a manager or someone flip you some softoss... foul ball goes out of play, your're on that thing like white on rice... he can't cut you because he's hoping to heck you rub off on your friends.... and if you make the team don't stop... be that guy every day.... good luck, you care enough to get on this web you care enough to bust your hump... go do it and then tell us about it.

Well, let us know whether you moved on. It's in someone else's hands for the moment.

Your skills for the moment are what they are. Nothing we can say will improve them in 24 hours. What you can show is attitude, and it's not just hustle. It's showing that you're not taking a play off -- that you're focused enough to look in every play, even if just shagging balls in batting practice or doing drills running the bases, for an edge, for something you can do to get a little more out of the play. Maybe a pump fake to a base. Make every throw in practice your best throw of the season.

Why? For a lot of high school coaches, a problem they face is having kids who think it's uncool to care too much about the game and little ball. If you set the pace every second you're on the field, you not only show what you can do, but you make it a little more cool for all the kids to try hard and look for the little things.

          Good luck!

              KC,
I used several criteria when selecting my high school team.
              1. Attitute

              2. Ability
              a. throwing
              b. hitting
              c. long distance running
              d. speed
              e. catching
              f. overall knowledge of the game

              3. Potential

While most of the weight was given on ability - I did allow for attitude and potential. If you do not make the team and feel you have something to offer ask the coach for the managers job. There's a lot of different ways to contribute to the team...

Thats good to know, my hitting and throwing were good but i dropped a few(I'm gonna blame it on the gloves, my 1st base mitt is too stiff and my fielding glove is too small lol) everything else was ok.

You didn't say what year you're in. Assuming you've got another year or two to try out, don't give up. Find out what the coaches like and work on it. Find out by asking them. Let them know that you're passionate about the game that they're making their living at. Let them know that you are a team player. Compliment them on their selection and let them know that you want to try again next year and find out what suggestions they have for you. If their criteria is power, find a trainer and buy a gym membership.

sorry kid..search right now and find a league you can play in this summer.Don't give up don't get down on yourself.MAYBE you can nicely approach the coach and ask him what you should work on over the next year cause you plan on comming back and taking somebodys spot next year.

Yeah, go play on a summer team ^_^ Maybe a fall one too
