  • Which lefty batter to model my swing after?

Alright, I just found out that I can hit lefty.

When I hit live pitching, I'm really uncomfortable with my current stance. When I hit righty, I pick up my left heel and look a lot like Alex Rodriguez/Derek Jeter. Now, if I try to mirror this left handed, it just dosen't fly for me.

I'm kind of lost at how to stand while batting left handed, frequently during at bats I shuffle my feet around trying to get comfortable and become distracted.

I'm asking if anyone here has any clips of lefty swingers that I could possibly try to immitate?

My advice....stick with batting righty. You're so young. It does no good to be average on one side, and below average on another. You're better off being great at one side. If and when that happens, then experiment with lefty.

I've fooled around with lefty in bp. If you really must, I would recommend keeping your stride as short as possible, and focusing on your timing and hip rotation. Once you have that down, the rest will fall in place. Maybe go with a Wade Boggs style without crouching over so much, and keep your hands closer to your body than he did. Ok, so then you're not really Boggs at all are ya..hmmm Just his lower body I guess. Go with whatever feels comfortable.

Thing is, I can really hit it righty, not bragging, but I'm a generally above average hitter.

My leftyness is a little below average, the little feet shuffling problem is just an irritance and I want to be able to fix it by finding a good solid stance for me. My bat speed and mechanics left handed are a bit better than my righty swing though.

Well there's your answer. You just became a lefty hitter who dabbles from the right side

What's causing the happy feet? Hal Morris used to do that, and Paul O'Neil to a lesser degree, but are you just really excited? Or uncomfortable? Next time you take batting practice, take extra time to landscape the batters box specifically for you. Get a nice slot goin' for your back foot, and make sure you're stride landing point is firm and even with it. Get to know how you like it. Over time, you'll become efficient at sculpting the box quickly during games. Other than that, just to throw a guy out there, Carlos Beltran has a pretty straight-forward and quiet approach with his lower body. Maybe someone can post a clip.
