I have never liked using these boards to recommend or push anyone's product, but I feel compelled to here. I coach a 12-year-old team out of the Denver area. We've improved every part of our game and have been looking to see how we compare to the powerhouses from the West Coast, Arizona, Florida, Texas, etc. We played a couple of tournaments this winter in Phoenix against the country's best teams from our age group. We found ourselves competitive in most aspects of the game and even manged to pull of an upset or two. The one aspect of the game where we were obviously behind was at the catching position. This one part of baseball was clwearly what separated us from the big boys. From local competition we thought our catching was pretty good, but the things we saw in Arizona opened my eyes. After hearing about it for years on this board, I finally bought Coach Weaver's video. Wow! I've purchased or borrowed many baseball instructional videos over the years. They have run the gammet from useless to good enough that I found the majority of the informatuion useful. For the most part, there are a few things in each that I can use and things that didn't make sense or just didn't really work. This video was, hands down, the best instructional video I've ever used. He completely covered every little aspect of catching and taught it in a way that is efficient and easy to understand. You know you've got something when you can get three 12-year-old catchers to watch every minute of a 3+ hour seminar without even wnating a break. I have two ex-D1 catchers on my staff and even they were inspired. After just a month, our catchers have entered a whole new game behind the plate. I have been kicking myself for not watching this years ago. I only wish I had discovered this in time to meet the Coach and pick his brain.

Root,
I have been working with my son for the last two years with Dave's DVD. I even traded emails and spoke to Dave a couple of times. He truely loved talking about catching. I have watched that DVD countless times and still pick up on something that I missed with it. I am currently working with nine different catchers in two age groups and from four different teams. The biggest thing is the confidence my son has started to show in the position. He loves throwing out runners. He always asks to go with me when I work with the other teams. I use him as the example.
The highlight for me was that he attended a catching clinic taught by Mark Strittmatter (former Rockies catcher coach and now pirates catcher coach). At the end of the clinic, Mark asked my son who taught him how to catch like he was. He asked if that was his first clinic. My son told him that he had never taken a class and that I was the one that taught him. Mark asked for him to go and get me. Mark asked me all the same questions and then asked how old my son was. He about fell over when I told him that he was 11YO at the time. He then asked me if I caught, and I told him I goofed off with it as a kid since I am a lefty. I told him that I honestly taught him from Dave's DVD. He said he had heard great stuff about Dave and thought he was just a regional coach.
I can say that Dave's DVD is so well thought out and presented that even a lefty can feel confident with working with catchers.

Dave was a clinician at several of our clinics.... He was simply the best there was.
To all who read these stories about Dave please know that his sons have carried on the legacy and I would highly recommend his son Jay."He who dares to teach, must never cease to learn."

Coach Weaver would have been 57 years old today, and those of you on Facebook can pay your respects to this fine coach, by wishing him a "Happy Birthday" on his FB page that his wife and family have kept alive in his memory.
To a good man, friend, and coach.....miss you Dave.
Til we meet again,
