  • Glove size question

Looking for a new mitt for my 9.5 year old son. Almost 10. He's an above average size kid. Was looking at the Wilson A1000 mitt at 11.5. Is there a big difference between the youth models and regular version of this mitt? I've only been able to see the regular version in the store?

    Thanks

A1000 Showcase Series - Youth Model

    Smaller finger stalls
Ecco Leather - "Inside and Out" - very soft. Break in not a problem, but durability?
Super skin is used - a Synthetic that is stronger than leather, but lighter.
Dual Welting like lots of Wilson gloves

The only difference I can see between the Showcase/Youth series and other A1000 lines is finger stalls, and not all Youth A1000 descriptions even mention that.

11.5 is not huge, and will definitely be an infielder/pitcher glove when he gets older.
"Herman Franks to Sal Yvars to Bobby Thomson. Ralph Branca to Bobby Thomson to Helen Rita... cue Russ Hodges."

I got my son a a1000 showcase and he won't put down his nike glove that he has. The wilson is a 11.5 and the Nike is a 12. In his opinion the Nike is lighter and much more broke in. Spent $100 on the Wilson for it to sit in a bucket... LOL Kids... gotta love em!

My 9u (a smaller 9u player) plays with a Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer 11.25 inch and absolutely LOVES it. He was able to break it in easily and it's held up well. He's strictly a SS, but pitches some in a pinch.

            X 2!!!!

I saw this thread on my phone over the weekend, but didn't have time to respond. I would highly recommend the Gold Glove Gamer PRO TAPER series. My 10 yo has been using the 11.00 inch model for 2 years. Excellent leather construction that breaks in easily & fits youth hands wonderfully. Every other kid that tries on my son's glove says, "Wow, this glove FITS!" or "Man, I wish my glove felt like this!" - Without Exception.

The PRO TAPER portion is key, I think, because that designates smaller finger stalls for youth players. If you shop around, you can find them on the internet for less than $90. There are 3 or 4 models / sizes to choose from.
