  • My son's recent swings

I'm not video taping his swings as much as when he was 12. Just try to make him focus more on hitting itself.

This was a bp from about a month ago

This was a game swing during USC HS baseball camp

He looks pretty good to me.

Uh, I just noticed that his shoulders are upside down in his stance. Front shoulder should be even, or slightly down - his is up.

The front shoulder should go 'down' to toe touch, then go up as the back elbow goes down during the swing to contact.

I noticed most of the Georgia LLWS hitters doing this (if you're reading ).

I don't see that in his RH swings.

I would say that this swing has no stretch.

              Yeah it's a little sloppy.

He has a nice swing. His top half and bottom half look good, but they aren't synced. He needs to get his hips going a couple frames sooner.

If he gets some stretch and uses it to launch, he'll be good.

The stretch appears to occur before the pitcher has even released the ball. There is definite pull back. The the rear arm "action" of pull back, tip of the bat ... I just don;t like the timing of it.

He doesn't pivot around the rear hip, but appears to go "all back" to "all forward". At least that's how it appears to me.

He does a good job of "sit and coil" at the beginning but then seems to give it all away as he strides toward the pitcher.

When I see the start, my mind thinks "Ooooh, this could be good" and then I see him stride to the pitcher opening the hips. Compared to Bonds who most definitely rotates around the rear hip.

Again, I've downloaded so many video clips of batters that I can no longer recall where I got them from. If this clip is the property of someone that doesn;t want it posted, please let me know.

This was over a year ago when I was still doing a lot of video taping

I like this swing better than I do the one form the OP. Seems to be a lot more "sudden" and forceful.

A lot of times he tends to be a little sloppy when facing me throwing mighty slow pitches during BP.:hyper:

I like the USC clip and the way he uses his hands to deliver the barrel to the ball. I think he could stretch it a bit more in the rear hip socket as he moves out but he does a nice job using HIS pattern to time the pitcher. The sequence is pretty good. I like a nice sloooooow load in the rear hip (Longoria) and I get the feel that he feels he can let the ball travel. Too many people teach getting the foot down early and I think that is poison when it comes to letting kids be athletic. Let the swing put the foot down and he does just that imo.
