  • Drill to Have Back Elbow Up at Toe Touch

One of my son's hitting flaws is a tendancy to lower his hands and back shoulder as he tracks the pitch. I think this is because at his age (9), many pitches start out over his head and then drop into the zone. I've tried to get him to get his back elbow up at toe touch and keep it there until the swing is initiated, but he tends to lower his hands and back shoulder to match the flight of the ball. Are there any drills to help with this other than lots of tee work with focus on this issue? Is there anything to help transition from the tee to live pitching?

    Thanks,

    Jim

'Stride to toe touch' in a mirror.
    - As you stride, keep the front knee back (not in front of the front hip) as long as possible.
    - Take the hands near the armpit - at toe touch. (Have him stick out his top thumb to touch his shoulder)

I am not sure what this means. No early toe touch or no early heel plant or something else?
