  • Wiffle Ball Bat = Bat speed ???

Last Winter My son played indoor wiffle for over a month straight , didn't touch his game Bat at all,
after going back outdoors his swing looked much faster and balls were flying further than before.

    Any Science To This?

Poly balls were used Pitch speed was 40 mph from 25 feet.

In my sons eyes he wasn't practicing he plays "inside Games" Living room ball , Couch pillows as bases (Thank god The Wife loves baseball) LoL

He Was 4 yrs Old in the Video he's now 5 playing on 7u.

cute. he seems to have fun. that's how baseball at this age should be(I know you posted on the burn out thread. I don't think that you are pushing him but there are also kids that push themselves too hard. right now everything seems to be OK but you should have an open eye for signs and when it becomes necessary stop him a little).

there is a training called overload/underload training which is used with high level athletes. So it can help but at his age it is probably more improved mechanics, strength and especially natural growth.

I now have my own non commercial blog about training for batspeed and power using my training experience in baseball and track and field.

If he asks you to put a donut on his bat, keep in mind that he probably wants a glazed one and not a cake donut.

        He is 5 yrs old.

Just make sure you buy him the flavor of sno-cone he wants the most after each game.

When he gets to 9 or 10 y.o. then start fine tuning him.

Mine is 9 now, and he had been developing some bad habits with his batting. I am realizing that he just hadn't been taking enough swings. Someone left a bag of those mini yellow rubber balls and some wiffle golf balls in my dugout last year. I have been carrying them around trying to figure out who left them. I broke them out a few days ago, and I started to soft toss and then pitch the balls to my boy. We worked on his follow through. He was stopping his swing at contact. I showed him how to finish high with the bat and roll his wrists after contact. Those swings really helped a bunch. He's hitting much better after just a week. I'm going to keep with it. I think he might get one over the fence this fall or next spring. I think I'm more excited about the idea of that than he is.

Those light bats are going to mask mechanical issues. He should be using at least a 30 oz bat :hyper:.

Brings back some memories. These were the blinds in my old house, from playing baseball with foam balls indoors (my wife just gave up fighting those battles).

The video is cute. He's having fun. Please don't go around telling people your son plays 7U at five. it doesn't mean a thing other than you may have worked with him more than a typical five year old and/or he's more physically advanced either in strength or agility than a typical five year. It means nothing since prepubescent kids are physically plus/minus three years of their actual age. I'm surprised you don't want him playing with his five year old friends. My son played played age appropriate every year until he was a teen. It didn't harm his development. He had fun playing with his friends. In fact, at five he wasn't playing organized baseball. Seven was the first year in 7/8 machine pitch.

That's different. He was way too advanced for a five year old who was actually four. ROTFLMAO. When I was on the board we didn't let five year olds play past 5/6 tee ball so we wouldn't have to deal with parents like you when they hit 7/8's and above. I wish I knew as much as you. I didn't have my son playing organized baseball at four years old. Having him start at seven probably stunted his baseball development. The same with my daughter not starting softball until seven.

He was 4 at the time, he is now 5. At 5 He will still play with 7u

He Also did play T-Ball Fall ball which was 5-7 (Jr. Giants, Funded by the SF Giants)

I'm sorry. I didn't realize you have a future pro prospect in your house.

                              4.8 years old?

Highest average on the 7U team?

Who keeps track of this stuff?

Lots of guys have had kids that have been "dominant" at age 5. It's not difficult since most other kids are picking up a bat for the first time.

Age 5 ISN'T coach pitch? I thought it was in most areas?

Your kid is as far ahead of the other kids at his age than he will ever be. Each year he will "lose ground" to the other kids. It's simply easier for them to improve than it will be for him. When it happens, don't be stunned, or think that you've done something wrong or let off the gas.

I would temper it now ... and I'd also stop using decimals with your kids age. I tend to agree with TG in a couple of years, you're going to be requesting that your 6.9yo be moved up with the 10yo's that he played coach pitch with.
