In the preteen years strength may matter more than mechanics. But as the field gets larger and the talent funnel gets smaller and smaller mechanics matter more. What's most beneficial as kids get older is adding bulk and strength to mechanics without bulking up past the point of optimum agility. My son entered college at 6'1", 170. He was 180 by the end of the first semester. This year he's 6'2". Her put on another ten pounds of muscle this fall to 190. The coaching staff told him another 5-10 max next year unless he continues growing so the bulk doesn't start affecting his speed. He runs a 6.6 sixty.

There's a reason that guys on Steroids hit so much better. Because they get stronger..very simple.

But, of course, they already had great technique. Most people don't.
