Hello y'all -- n00bie here!
Just discovered this site while googling to try to find this out, and realized that somebody here might have the answer.
I'm looking for an specific article -- pretty sure it was an old Elias Analyst, maybe around the early '90's but not sure.
It was an ANALYSIS OF THE 1961 YANKEES, in the same format that they used for the then-current teams. You know, all the stuff like month-by-month, situational, home/away splits, left/right splits -- the things that are now routine but didn't exist back in '61.
I remember particularly one factoid they came up with: Nobody stole a base against Whitey Ford that year, OR EVEN TRIED -- in well over 300 innings.
And another one: Roger Maris (my man!) hit very poorly when Mantle wasn't in the lineup (decent power, but B.A. around .160).
I'd love to find this article, but can't. At first my memory told me it was in one of Bill James's yearly abstracts, so I looked through all of them, didn't find it......then realized it might have been in one of the annual Elias's.
Trouble is, I recently moved, and didn't take everything along. I saved all the Bill James books, and most other baseball books. I didn't save any of the Elias's. (That'll teach me......)
DOES ANYBODY HERE REMEMBER SUCH AN ARTICLE?
And do you know where it was? If it was Elias (which I think it was), WHAT YEAR?
If I just knew which book it was, I could easily get it.
Either way, thank you in advance.
(Great site, with lots of impressive members.)
