  • The Pete Rose movie "Hustle"

i recently watched it. The one made by ESPN a few years ago. I feel like I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to Pete Rose. But maybe somebody who has a little more information could tell me.......How accurate is this film when it comes to the true story of Pete in the late 80's?
"all the mets road wins against the dodgers this year have occured at Dodger Stadium"---Ralph Kiner

"Blind people came to the park just to listen to him pitch"---Reggie Jackson, talking about Tom Seaver

I grew up in Cincinnati, and met Pete Rose several times. He was the speaker for my 7th grade football banquet - what are the chances of getting A-Rod to do that.
I found the movie fairly accurate, but didn't like the way they portrayed Pete as a mouth-breathing hillbilly. Seriously, the actor used all these facial tics, grimaces. Despite his considerable flaws, Pete was a really charming guy.

A-Rod probably wouldn't be able to speak at your 7th grade football banquet. The proper time machine hasn't been invented yet.

Frank's right, the portrayal of Rose was a little heavy handed, but that has been the case with most ESPN movies and their subjects.

Rose is very personable, when he wants to be. Just like anybody else.
