  • Baseball poetry

The best book of baseball poetry I've come across is Hummers, Knucklers, and Slow Curves edited by Don Johnson. It's out of print, and every time I run across it in a used bookstore I buy a copy. It is consistently checked out of my high school classroom library, and the copies don't always find their way back!

The old publication, Spitball, is also available in used bookstores sometimes. Wonderful articles, short stories, poetry and book reviews.

We don't need no steenkin books

Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.
