Would it be a good idea/ would there be a market for a book I may write this summer ranking every player in many fields? Like Bill James, only more concise, and complete, and with a more variety of fields. What do you think?

Well, I am a self-taught baseball stats fanatic, who has already written many books on stats, but I have never had any published. I also have level 1 in coaching, and coach my local little league team. I am also going for levels 2 and 3 in sports coaching this summer. I also studied maths and law in college.

Sure. It's worth a shotOriginally posted by bhss89"Hi. My name is John. I'd like you to meet my fastball. Can you catch up to it?
Didn't think so. I'll see you again tomorrow night around the top of the ninth."Originally posted by ChineseDemocracyWhy can't they just air the doubleheaders? Those programs aimed at children are crap anyway.

I am writing one on traveling around minor league stadiums. Another on LL baseball, and maybe the third on this.

I will also publish my other written work, once they have been altered, and am ready to. Or maybe as one big book.......

I will anounce on the forum when they will be published, hopefully in Jan-Feb. Already have 10 publishers interested in the Minor League book.

I'm always interested in books ranking players. The market is pretty saturated with them IMO, but I still keep buying them.
I have 7 or 8 different books with top 100 or so rankings and when they are compared to Bill James' masterpiece they fall well short. I would say that most of them are just flat out terrible. Most are just opinion without any methodology or statistical support. One guy ranked Bonds over Ruth which is just stupid. There's an older book that has George Foster in the top 100. And one of my big pet peeves with these list's is that with the exception of James they leave out the Negro Leagues entirely, or just add the token players of Paige and Gibson, and the ones that do include Negro League players rank them absurdly low, like Oscar Charleston in the high 80's.
I don't know how you could write a book more complete or concise than Bill James' Historical Abstract. The top 100 players ever, and then the top 100 players ever at each position. With the biographical data and often hilarious anecdotes he added you're looking at 800+ pages. Be prepared to show your work and also face serious criticism. I wish you luck with the book and I'd love to see some samples if you have any.
ScottI told you not to be stupid you moron.
