  • Books by season

Since there is a sticky devoted to biographies I wondered whether it might be good to have something similar for seasons. By season it could be a particular team such as the “Gashouse Gang” of 1934; a pennant race; a World Series. Whatever the focus, it must exist within a single season.

Biographical books are far more prolific than those about seasons but I enjoy reading them & I thought it might be useful to compile a list of publications.

I will start a list of the books I have & others can add to it.

    1884: Fifty-nine in 84, by Edward Achorn

1897: A Game of Brawl, by Edward Kennedy

1903: Autumn Glory, by Louis Masur
1903: The First World Series, by Roger Abrams

1908: Crazy 08, by Cait Murphy

1912: The First Fall Classic, by Mike Vaccaro

1934: The Gashouse Gang, by John Heindry

1949: Summer of ’49, by David Halberstam

1964: October 1964, by David Halberstam

1966: Black & Blue, by Tom Adelman

1975: The Long Ball, by Tom Adelman

1977: Ladies & Gentleman the Bronx is Burning, by Jonathan Mahler
I believe in all that - in baseball, in picnics, in freedom. Walt Whitman, 1888

Some off the top of my head:

1969: Ball Four by Jim Bouton

1978: The Bronx Zoo by Sparky Lyle

1986: The Bad Guys Won by Jeff Pearlman
If I had only spent a tenth of the time studying Physics that I spent learning Star Wars and Baseball trivia, I would have won the Nobel Prize.

A couple corrections to some entries I made previously. For 1995 it's "Burying The Curse" not Breaking (a sequel to Pluto's "The Curse Of Rocky Colavito") and for 1978 it's "The Greatest Game Ever".
