Not really a primer on the season, but Carl Yastrezemski's 1968 autobiography with Al Hirshberg, entitled Yaz, spends a lot of time on the season and Yaz's mindset throughout it, including the World Series.

It's not a bad idea reading his autobiography since he was the main hero of that year. Thanks for your recommendation.

Searching at Amazon.com I didn't find it. Instead of that book, I found another: Yaz: Baseball, the Wall, and Me by Carl Yazstrzamski. Is it worth reading?

If you're a fan of Yastrzemski, yes. The earlier book is better, I believe, but they're very different. Instead of conflicts with guys like Billy Herman and Eddie Stanky from the earlier book, you get issues with Tony Conigliaro and how Yaz was a practical joker. Luis Aparicio was a particular favorite. One's the perspective of a player at the very peak of his career and the other is of a freshly-minted HOF'er looking back.
