  • Alibi Ike

I don't know if this 1935 movie starring Joe E. Brown and Olivia De Haviland has been mentioned before. Joe is a minor league pitcher with an eccentric motion. He is called up to the Chicago Cubs and is soon their best pitcher. His nickname is Alibi Ike because he always has an alibi for Manager William Frawley. Hios teammates are always ragging on him because he is a rookie and a little crazy too.

I found an error in the film making. The Cubs are playing the NY Giants in a game and the radio announcer twice says, "There's another run for the Giants" as a NY player slides into home. The problem is in the footage they used. It distinctly shows a St. Louis Cardinal runner sliding into home!

But the coverage of a night game is not bad for back in 1935. There was no television coverage yet.
"He's tougher than a railroad sandwich."
"You'se Got The Eye Of An Eagle."
