I suggest you collect cards of rather old people and hang on to them. Once they have kicked the bucket the cards' value will shoot up like a rocket. Keep these in mint condition until you are about thirty years older then sell them to an eccentric retired baseball-card crazed nut. (I'm not saying everyone who collects baseball cards are nuts, just the people who take it too far and spend all their money on them until they run themselves into bankrupcy.) If you wish to purchase baseball cards that you want to enjoy, I can't help you there. All I know is how to get a bit of profit.

game used cards are stupid. destroying lou gehrig, babe ruth and others uniforms, just to put a square inch of it on a baseball card is stupid.

            Topps , Topps, Topps

This company has been through all the good and bad times when it comes to the sports card business..... Topps, speaks for itself, they are "Topps" in their class....

There is a ton of junk out there so focus on COMPLETE SETS, which then gives you ever card????

TOTAL AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!! The best way to collect is to buy Autograph Memrobilia. May it be an 8X10 or a FULL game used Jersey. That is were the big bucks are. Not little strips of andruw jones' jersey. Thanks-CHRIS

The card market is flooded with game used jersey cards so I wouldn't recommend collecting them because they won't hold much value in the future.

I would collect rookie cards. Each player's rookie card is only available in one certain year, so these cards will eventually be more valuable 30-40 years down the road, if you decide to keep them that long.

Certified autographed cards are good to collect also, but they are pricey and harder to obtain.

I've always gravitated to the players I actually like. I grew up rooting for Bob Horner and Willie Wilson, for some reason, among other players. I still pick up the cards of them I need.

                      My thoughts

I focus on scouring for low serial #'d, #'D GAME USED (Not only, but mostly), Autos and nice low #'d HOF'ers. I also browse for nice vintage for grading & locking away in above book conditions.

When I find a guy who has a $1 box, I check the star ratio, if there are cards I want, I by the whole $1 box. Sell off lots and keep good condition, popular name players for posterity.

Cards have become so hit or miss and up & down in the last 5-8 years with the market flood that finding that 3-4 sets a year that will be wanted for years to come has become mildly possible.

Ah, can somebody set the clock back to 1980 ?

I wrote a note to Upper Deck about my displeaseure of them cutting up all this stuff. Especially Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig & Ty Cobb's jersey. And no suprise, I got no response. They are destroying so much history, this stuff needs to be behind glass. I have a piece of Shoeless Joe's bat from Highland Mint. I am torn as to keep it becuase of the historical value to me or to sell it in protest of all these compnay's cutting up the classic items....

I agree here and wanted to add Bowman and Bowman Draft Picks. I am huge into rookie cards, and nothing beats Bowman.

                            This is your hobby

As an experienced collector, the best advice I could give you is to always stick to what YOU like. Dont ever base your collecting interests on what others have. Maybe you like one player and want all his stuff. Maybe you like one team. Maybe you like players who are from your hometown/state. In my case, my baseball memorabilia is Washington Nationals items. Bottom line, get what interests YOU!

                              Complete Sets

I think you should get the Topps complete set. This gives you every card that year. If you go to a hobby shop, you might be able to find some older ones that are more valuable.
