  • Selling & Buying on sportlots.com

I found out about this site through a link in a profile on this board (Mad Hatter I believe). Man I wish the internet was around when I was 10. I think I'm gonna buy every single 1986 Topps Wanye Krenchicki on there just because I can. It took me 6 months to find that stupid card. I had 791 cards and I just needed that last one. No one had it, not any of my collecting friends, no one in my little league, not the 2 card shops that were within my mom's driving range, no one. I had to but more than 3 extra boxes of Topps that year just to find that card. DAMN YOU WAYNE KRENCHICKI!!! It's now 22 years later and I think I'm going to try and find his address so I can get that card signed. End tangent.

Anyway, What I was wondering about the site is if anyone here has ever sold anything on it. I was looking at the fee's they charge and they seem high to say the least. 75% for under $5 sold, 50% for $5-$25, 35% for $25-$50. Yikes. I have a lot of cards from sets that I've finished building that I'd like to get something for and this site looked perfect until I saw the fee's. Is it worth my time to put an inventory on there?

I was also wondering how user friendly it is for sellers and buyers. I haven't purchased anything on there yet either. Is it pretty much the same as ebay? Anyone who's ever bought or sold on this site before I'd really appreciate your insight. Thanks

It is pretty easy to use and you can gradually add in your inventory. What I normally do is that I have two windows open, one to add the inventory and the other to see what the cards are selling for so that I can price my cards. It's pretty random what sells for me on there.

Their fees are high, but I look at it as these are cards that I probably couldn't move on ebay, so if I can get the shipping paid for and a LITTLE something for the cards, I'm cool with it. It does tick me off when I have months where I've sold $4.50 in cards and I can't get that extra $.50 so that I can get up to that 50% commission instead of 75%.

I've had the most success selling cards of extremely recent issues (within the first few months of the product being released) and cards of hall of famers (even recent ones like Ripken, Brett, Sandberg, etc etc.).

I've used it to buy a lot of cards for TTM, especially the 53 and 54 Topps Archives cards and some of the other reprints (52 Topps, Play Ball, etc). It's a good resource.

The trick to buying on there is to trying to find cards from the same seller so that you can keep the shipping costs down. If you click the "wine glass" looking icon next to the sellers name, that will put their entire inventory in the upper left hand corner of your control panel and you can search their whole selection.

I have three of that Krenchicki card. Well 2 actually because one is the O-Pee-Chee variation.

Listen Mr. Eric Davis, I don't particularly like you either. You or Wayne Krenchicki. I once paid $30.00 for your 1985 Dunruss rookie. That's back when I was lucky to make $3.00-$5.00 a week allowance. Now I can get that card for 18 cents on sportlots. 18 CENTS!!! At least you're not Jose Canseco. I think I traded $100 worth of cards for his 1986 Donruss rookie. Ugh.

Glad to hear someone is using the links in my signature. I buy from sportslot often, mostly just to fill sets (or find those cards I've always wanted). I'm INTERESTED in selling on sportslot, but I don't know that I have the time or energy to catalogue my entire collection first.
