  • 2008 Topps Errors

And with a new season comes new errors. Unfortunately it seems as though Topps didn't learn their lesson from last year's same mistakes.

#117 Boof Bonser. As our forum member Boof Bonser pointed out in another thread, Boof Bonser's card has his named misspelled Bosner on front.

#241 Ervin Santana. Last year the debate was if the fascimile sig was really his or not. I believe the conclusion was that even though he called himself Johan at one time the fascimile sig was still that of twins/Mets Johan Santana. Well the fascimile sig of his 2007 Topps #33 and this year's #241 are exactly the same. Wrong again i guess.

#275 C.C. Sabathia CY Young Award card. Back says "Batting Average Against by 2007 NL MVP". Should say AL as CC pitched in the AL. Peavy's NL CY Young card correctly says against by NL MVP.

#239 Richie Sexson. Fascimile sig not his. If you look at his 2007 Topps #212 the fascimile sig clearly reads his name. However his #2007 Bowman 103 and his 2008 #239 have a matching sig that look nothing like his name.

The Tom Seaver 50th Anniversary All-Rookie Team Insert card lists him as a shortstop.

The player pictured on Eric Bedard's card is actually Brian Burress.

I'm pretty sure that if I worked for Topps' design/graphics deptartment I'd make mistakes too, but these errors are ridiculous. Wrong signatures, misspelled names, and wrong pictures is unbelievable. If a manager can't do his job with a ball club, he gets fired. Does the same happen here with these geeks at Topps? I think they should focus on getting the regular base set right rather than toying around with Jeter/George/Mantle, politician campaign 2008, and Juliani/Red Sox gimmic cards. I'd be embarrased if I was in charge of paying these people's salary. It's rather insulting to assume that fans won't know the difference between Bedard and Burress, or Bonser and Bosner. It seems like the only thing they don't screw up is the card's number, but who knows I could be wrong. :twocents:

Man, their is some bad Quality Control going on over at Topps. Card companies do make mistakes, but the list keeps adding up. I don't know if its because their rushed to release a product or what, but this is just ridiculous.

I think it is 05, or it could be 04, but their David Eckstein card actually pictures Adam Kennedy.

Who's to say they aren't making these mistakes on purpose? If they correct the Bedard picture how many people are going to buy their product trying to get both versions.

They won't correct it. They never correct things like this.

I wouldn't say "never" as they have corrected them in the past. In 1988 the Al Leiter card originally featured Steve George (on right) but was corrected to feature Leiter (on left).

I should clarify - although corrections were widespread in the past, they haven't corrected cards since...well, I don't know of any from the 2000 sets or later.

I was lookin through some 2005 Topps Total cards yesterday and came across a Ranger's "dual" rookie card. One of the 2 players on there was supposed to be Ian Kinsler- instead the guy pictured was African American AND was pitching... Talk about a double oops!

As far as 2008's go, I haven't ran across anything else you all haven't mentioned.

I saw listed in another forum that #158 Jose Bautista's card shows Jose Castillo. I do not have that card to confirm. Does anyone else?

I know this is a 2008 errors thread, but I just found this on Livan Hernandez' 2007 Topps:

Born: 2/20/75 Villa Clara, Cuba Home: Villa Clara, Cuba.

-Looks like they forgot that Cuban players who decide to leave cant even go back to visit!
                          Yankees' payroll: $250 millions
                          Marlins' payroll: $50 millions

Someone should take the time to e-mail Topps and point out this thread to them.
