  • 2008 Hillary Clinton - Morganna card

    Hi All,

Have you seen or heard anything about this '08 Clinton card? She's depicted as the kissing bandit "Morganna" on the card. Word is UD produced a few of these then pulled them by hand off the lines. As usually to drum up sales, a few of these cards have made it to the shelves. Last time I looked on Ebay, they were closing at around $700 each!
    WAR? Prove it!

Ebay has two different cards up for auction and the two cards are slightly different. I have no idea how legit these cards are, but this reeks of a scam.

The cards are completely legitimate. UD made them as part of their presidential insert set and then "decided" they were too "controversial" and "hand-pulled" all of them off the assembly lines, but a few "accidentally" got through.

For a brief time, the card was listed on the UD website along with all the other presidential insert sets.

The card is legitimate if "made by UD" is what you mean. If you mean "not another publicity/sales stunt", then, no.

Publicity stunt. BTW, does anyone besides myself notice a rather odd similarity between the anonymous Philadelphia Phillies player and Pete Rose?

EDIT: Checked eBay. Would seem there are indeed two variants of the card. One with a player face, one without. If I had to guess, just the way the artwork is/Hillary's face is positioned positioned, the one with the player face was the original, the one without a visible player face was a correction somewhere down the line (perhaps because they knew that yes, they could get into trouble not created by themselves if they said "We just put Pete Rose and Hillary Clinton on the same baseball card!").

The existance of this card was one of the reasons my local dealer gave me for the fact that he was charging $7 per pack for Upper Deck packs. They were 25 card per pack, and hobby packs....but still...$7?!

I left with two only slightly overpriced packs of Topps...$2.50 for 10 cards, as opposed to the $1.99 I paid at Target (the ones he had were hobby packs, though, so that might explain the price difference).

I haven't seen any Upper Deck at my local Target or Walmart...hope they get some soon.

Dumb $$, the card will be worth $5 in a couple years.

PS The batter is Von Hayes...... Rose was the manager of the Reds when the photo was taken.

$7? That's crazy! There is a Target store here in town that is less than a mile from Hi-Corbett field and they do a good job stocking cards because they know fans come in for them. When I was there last night, they had about 6-8 boxes of 2008 UD marked $19.99 each. Each box contained 10 packs and each box guarantees one game-used card. I should have bought a box or 2 last night, but I used the money to buy my dog some toys instead. (laughs)

                    "What photo?"

I believe it's a an obtuse attempt at humor.

Yeah, I gotta keep an eye on Target and Walmart. I usually don't do much shopping, but was actually IN Walmart last night buying some party supplies...and they didn't have any 2008 cards. :noidea
