I have a playing card with an obviously older, uniformed, Ty Cobb teaching a young boy how to slide.

I didn't pay much for it and I doubt it's worth much, but it is my favourite.

From the style of advertising and the telephone number I would say it was made in the 1940's.

      Kenny Lofton game-used jersey
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

Baseball signed by Kevin Orie, Terry Mulholland, and Bob Patterson. Obviously not worth much, but it was from my first Cubs game when I was 12 or so. Also is the only autographed ball I own.

When I was a college sportswriter the softball team had a sports collectibles show fund raiser and Travis Fryman, Dave Bergman and Mike Heath were special guests. I had them sign the article I wrote telling about the show.

            willie harris

My favorite piece is a autographed game used willie harris bat that I got from him at a 2004 white sox game. I know he's not the best player, but it's still awesome how he just asked me if I wanted it, and then offered to sign it.

My home state, Virginia, is one of 16 states that has an official state sports HOF. I attend the HOF induction banquet every year. The first one I attended was in 2002. I have saved the souvenir programs from the induction ceremony every year that I have attended. That set of programs is my most prized collectibles.
A very close second for me was from where I was on April 14, 2005-in the stands at RFK stadium in Washington to witness the return of MLB to Washington, DC. I saved the souvenir program, ticket (it was die-cut in the shape of the Capitol building), a pin commemorating that night, and a commemorative medallion from that night.

My team signed 2003 Cubs ball (from Aug. 30 roster; minus Carlos Zambrano, Shawn Estes, and Antonio Alfonseca). I got to meet every player and coach and walk onto the outfield, one of the best experiences in my life, and I'll remember it forever.

A close second goes to my Aramis Ramirez game used bat from his days with Pittsburgh.
A lot of people say this honor validates my career, but I didn't work hard for validation. I didn't play the game right because I saw a reward at the end of the tunnel. I played it right because that's what you're supposed to do, play it right and with respect. If this validates anything, it's that learning how to bunt and hit and run and turning two is more important than knowing where to find the little red light at the dug out camera. - Ryne Sandberg

How'd you get to do that?

A Mickey Mantle signed baseball I got in person from him in 1993.

Second is my Astros World Series jersey I'm trying to get signed by as many players as possible (Lidge and Oswalt so far).

For the last few years, the Cubs have hosted a 'Meet the Team, Have a Ball' event at Wrigley before a regular season game. The ticket cost $200 back then (a little much, but it was worth it), it's probably gone up since then though.

I have two things. One is the baseball that Willie Mays autographed when I met him. The other is a ticket stub that I've carried in my wallet every day since July 18, 1973. It's for a Wednesday afternoon game at Fenway Park between the Red Sox and the White Sox. Bill "Spaceman" Lee was pitching for Boston and Steve Stone for the White Sox. Boston won 6-1. Tommy Harper hit one over the screen above the Green Monster and Reggie Smith curved one around the Pesky pole. A kid named Carlton Fisk was catching for the Red Sox that day. Yaz was still playing in those days. Also in the lineup that day for the Red Sox were Luis Aparicio at short, Rico Petrocelli at third and Orlando Cepeda as the DH (the first year!). The White Sox had Dick Allen, Carlos May and Bill Melton in the lineup.

                            Mine

My favorite is a signed Brad Radke ball and cards, from when i lived in Florida. He lived nextdoor to my little league field and would come over and give pitching lessons and talk with us. Second is my Rocco Baldellis signed ball, because he is by far my favorite player.

                              .

mine is a bat used by boston braves, whitey wietelmann. The bat is broken, but its nailed and taped together though. probably used during the 1940's.
