  • Best looking Topps card design?

Going only by the design of the base cards, what year of Topps cards do you think is the best looking?

    I like 1977.

That one has my vote! My favorite is the Mariano Rivera and now twice as much because I have it signed!

I'd say 1953, simply because it was the first Topps set my Dad completed. However, I'm really partial and biased to anything 1957 and before because Dad had ALL of those sets completed (until a flood destroyed most of them). Post-1957? I would say 1959 Topps or 1962 Topps.

                  Topps best design

I personally like the 1956 cards.

But from the ones I began to collect when they first appeared was the 1975 set. The psychodelic seventies man !

1980 is my favorite. I think the run of Topps designs from the late 70's were all great with the possible exception of 1978. Although my opinion is probably heavily influenced by the fact that the late 70's was the era of my life when I first became interested in baseball & baseball cards.

I prefer the uncluttered look of 1961.

My personal favorite is the much-maligned 1987 with the wood-grain border:

vt yankee: I personally like the 1956 cards.

                              agreed.
there is a timeless quality to the hand-painting-over-photograph technique.
the '56 set had an interesting action-insert composition.
