  • How many TTM's before you give up?

Today I sent out my first repeat TTM to a player who I did not get a response from in Feb of `07 (Jimmy Key). Anyone else ever send again after no response? If so, how long do you typically wait and what is your success rate?

Good question. I want to resend around the 50 day mark, but you just have to be patient. I guess it depends on where you are sending to. Some of the recent ST returns are a year or older because players don't stay at the ST facilities year round. If your sending to a retired player and haven't gotten a reply in 6-8 months I would probably give up or try again.

You know, I've had mixed results with resending. I think in general I limit myself to sending to a player twice....with at least one year between the times I send to him. If I don't get anything after my second attempt, I'll stop wasting postage.

You've been waiting since Feb 07. I was getting worried after 40 plus days of nothing from Mark Grace. I've been told to have patience. I think I got the return after 42 days. Since I started TTM in January the longest wait has been 52 days. I recently sent out a TTM to Jimmy Key. But, only because i saw success with him in March on SC.net. I just went back to look how people have been doing and there is a list of "waiting" on him since the middle of March. Sounds like I'll never see those cards again. But, you never know.

I never worry about it. There are some requests I sent way back before "forever" stamps came out. Some of those still trickle in from time to time.

I was just more interested in a general time frame when people try a player again.

I resent to Goose Gossage last year in October after not having gotten anything back from a request sent in January. I got the October request back around the end of the year....and the January request back a week later. Guess you never know!

If it's due to an old add then I will resend. If I don't hear from a player after 6 months then I will call it a loss. And chances are I will not resend to that player. Unless I really, really want his sig.

Today I just got a return a day past the 3 month mark, but on the other hand I sent to a few coaches (both at the major & minor league level) last season and have yet to get even a RTS.

I wrote Will Clark one time in the early 90's and I didn't see anything for over a year. I all but gave up then one day there was a beat up envelope in my mail box with the signed card inside. It probably took close to 15 months, but it did arrive.

I received one back after two years from former Reds' utility player Jerry Lynch.

                      Don't give up

Just because a former player doesn't return something within 2 weeks, it doesn't
mean you won't be getting it back. There are a lot of factors, and don't forget the players have problems like you and I do. Maybe they went on vacation, or a family member is sick, personal problems etc. Maybe they let the letters pile up for a bit and then answer a bunch at one time. Did you use the player's correct address and correct zip code? Where in the country do you live. I find for myself, living in Canada, a request seems to take almost twice as long to comeback as it does for the U.S. I have received many items back after a year's wait, one request was over 2 1/2 years. Give the player some slack, they don't live to answer your autograph request, just stay optimistic and send out stuff to other players in the meantime.
