We had the chance to IP this game on 4-27-2008.
Portland Sea Dogs vs. Binghamton Mets
Hadlock Field
Game Time temp 48...rainy...
The Sea Dogs signed under the awning at the picnic area, out of the rain.
Very crowded...but got everyone that was there...
I am continually amazed at how hospitable the entire team was. Everyone was very nice despite the weather and the big crowd. Justin Masterson, to our delight, got alot of attention. He is such a gentleman and took time to answer and talk to everyone that made thier way past him.
Dave Joppie (htting coach) was cordial and remember me from a few weeks ago when he said..."I hope that you haven't called Theo yet!!"
I had to ask a few players who were just beyound the awning to step in to get stuff signed. They all did gladly.
Unfortunately our camera did not work.
We had no chance to get the Mets as there was a steady drizzle still up untill game time. The players made warmup quick and you could tell they were not in the mood.
So we got them after the game. We were the only ones there. Nobody else.
It was difficult to recognize the players as this was the first time we had seen them...so we asked....that was recieved with mixed emotion...and major attitudes were pulled by some..like.."you don't know ME...I don't know you"
Fernando Martinez was his usuall standoffish....no time for anyone.
Mako Oliveras was real cool...I asked how long he had been in pro baseball...."Too long..since 1968" (Mets lose 3 of 4 to the Dogs)
Mike Carp has got a great swing...I asked how the season was going...he said "Great untill we got here...I was hitting like .450 now .350"
Joe Hietpas was very charming.
