  • 2006 Errors

I have read in another post about a few errors thus far in Topps' new cards. I thought this might be a good place to start posting any errors that you find. So far I have two:

-Topps card #287 of Pete MacKinin is actually a picture of Lloyd Mclendon. (How dumb and or apathetic do you need to be to mix up the two?)

-The Topps Heritage Set- Big mistake. They neglected to put the "Rookie Card" designation on ANY of the cards after making a huge deal about this new industry development.

On Flash Gordon's card (#163) they went through the trouble of airbrushing his uniform from the Yankees to the Phillies but they left the team name on the front as Yankees even though they had Phillies on the back.

edit to add: The airbrushing this year is fantastic! It's come a long way since the 1974 Traded set.

On the back of card number 7 (Mickey Mantle) it says he once hit a 656 foot home run when it should have been 565 feet.

Thanks UC! That is pretty sweet photowork. But leaving the Yankees on there is just silly.

I haven't seen it yet but it is my understanding that one of ther Rangers cards it wrong.
If I remember correctly, it is Michael Young's Card, but shows Rod Barajas.
I may be wrong, as I said, I haven't seen it personally.

No card issued for #297 Ryan Gordon? I have opened 12 boxes and nothing.

A Google search turned up http://cgi.ebay.com/2006-Topps-ALEX-...QQcmdZViewItem this eBay listing, in which the seller claims

"it was to be removed by Topps from circulation as Alex Gordon does not qualify as a RC under the new agreement, and was not suppose have a card yet."

                  EDIT: found a pic

More googling resulted in finding pictures of these errors:

Barry Bonds HRH #704 Date is 9-16-105 (not 9-16-05)
Barry Bonds HRH #708 Date is 9-27-105 (not 9-27-05)

EDIT: Looks like this applies to #705, 706, & 707, too.

Found this one: "Teixeira" spelled "Teixiera." Now this one I can understand.

I would be able to understand it too except all they have to do is read the back of his jersey.

Bartolo Colon's Cy Young Award card says on the front that his 2005 record was 23-6, while in his stats on the back, it (correctly) shows a record of 21-8.
"Too many pitchers, that's all, there are just too many pitchers Ten or twelve on a team. Don't see how any of them get enough work. Four starting pitchers and one relief man ought to be enough. Pitch 'em every three days and you'd find they'd get control and good, strong arms."

                          -Cy Young

Does Topps actually have proofreaders?... I mean ones over the age of ten?
