$40 for a box of about 1200 random cards of mostly baseball, but also some football and basketball players. Probably got over $100 in cards, including 3 football autos and 31 parallels

Besides the Ken Burns' Baseball DVDs series, I paid $175 for an un-graded T-206 Nap Lajoie about 4 years ago. And like I've said in the past, I don't have the capabilities to provide you all with a scan.

Bought myself a Christmas present in 2006.

                A 1968 Mickey Mantle
                A 1964 Mickey Mantle
                A 1957 Yankee Sluggers (w/Mantle and Berra)
                A 1953 Mickey Mantle

                Condition G to VG

                Cost = $300.00

I spent about $30 for a 1954 Topps Willie Mays in 1985 or 1986. I also got Jackie Robinson from the same set for $12 that day.

The most that I ever paid for a complete set was around $200 for the 1984 Donruss in 1987.

The most valuable baseball related purchase I ever made was the best deal I've ever gotten. I paid $100 which was the most I ever spent on one purchase at the time. There was an older gentleman that sold old cards at a local card show. I had bought many cards from him in the past and developed a good relationship with him. This was in 1994 or so and I was about 18 or 19 at the time and he really liked the fact that I was more interested in the history of baseball than the value of the cards. This one day he told me to pick out any 25 cards I wanted and then we would negotiate a price. I wasn't sure what to do and before I picked up a 1956 Koufax I asked him if it was worth my time to include it and he said any cards I wanted. After that I just went for it. Here's the list of cards I got:

                    1952 Topps Monte Irvin NM
                    1953 Topps Whitey Ford EX
                    1954 Topps Ted Williams #1 VG/EX
                    1955 Topps Eddie Mathews EX/NM
                    1956 Topps Bob Feller EX
                    1956 Topps Sandy Koufax EX
                    (2) 1957 Topps Hank Aaron EX/NM
                    (2) 1957 Topps Willie Mays EX/NM
                    (2) 1957 Topps Roberto Clemente EX/NM
                    1960 Topps Sandy Koufax NM
                    1961 Topps Willie McCovey NM
                    1960 Topps Carl Yastrzemski EX
                    1964 Topps Roger Maris EX/NM
                    1964 Topps Willie Stargell NM
                    1964 Topps Roberto Clemente NM
                    1965 Topps Joe Morgan NM
                    1966 Topps Sandy Koufax NM
                    1966 Topps Roberto Clemente NM
1911 T201 Mecca Double Folder Walter Johnson EX/NM
1911 T201 Mecca Double Folder Christy Mathewson EX/NM
                    1955 Bowman Elston Howard EX
For the 25th card I couldn't pick between a 1967 Topps Jim Palmer and a 1967 Topps Ernie Banks so he said to take both.

He just asked me how much money I had and I said $200 and he replied how about half that. I was stunned. I couldn't get the money out of my wallet fast enough. It turned out this was the last show he was ever doing. He had soured on the baseball card market and was selling his entire inventory to another dealer. He told me he wanted to see the cards go to someone that would appreciate them for more than the prices in the latest Beckett.

The most I ever spent on one purchase was $400 for a DiMaggio/Mantle/Williams signed 8x10 with a nice frame.

Only really spent big bucks on two things, one card and one item, but they were so important to me i had to have them. Actually, many here already know that for a real expensive thing i get my wife to give them to me as a gift and then its ALL my gifts for a few years, but its worth it. The two things are:

                        the card:

                        1952 Topps PSA-1 Mickey Mantle - $3000

                        the item:

a fantastic replica (real gold, actual size, exact duplicate, except not real gems) of Joe Torre's 1996 Yankees World Series Championship ring - $2500

I love the card so much, if i had to, i could get rid of all my card collection and only keep the 52 Mantle, and the ring is so real that when i wear it people are always asking me if i am with the Yankee organization. A lot of bucks for both, and as i said, nothing else i have bought comes anywhere close to these two things in value, but boy they are great to have.
