Autographs for a Cause
[Jeremy Bonderman] This season, in an effort to support the metro-Detroit community, Tigers pitcher Jeremy Bonderman has partnered with the Detroit Tigers Foundation in a program called "Autographs for a Cause." Through this program, Jeremy will sign fans' baseball cards and photographs through the mail in exchange for a donation to the Detroit Tigers Foundation, the club's official charity. All of the funds collected through this program by Jeremy will be donated to The Miracle League of Michigan, a charitable organization that provides children with mental and/or physical challenges an opportunity to play baseball as a team member in an organized league.

Fans that wish to participate in the ?Autographs for a Cause? program, should send their baseball cards or photographs (not larger than 8x10) along with check or money order (made payable to the DETROIT TIGERS FOUNDATION) according to the following donation chart:

Fans should keep in mind there is some risk involved in putting an item in the mail. Although reasonable precautions will be taken, the Detroit Tigers are not responsible if an item is lost or damaged. Please allow four to six weeks for your item(s) to be signed and do not send items other than baseball cards or photographs, as they will be returned to you unsigned. If your donation is mailed after the end of the regular season, please allow additional time for your item(s) to be signed, as items may not be signed until the start of Spring Training.

Seems like a pretty good organization to me. I wish some of the bigger name players [A-Rod, Griffey, etc.] would do something at least like this. Does anyone know if anyone else is doing this?

The players and coaches of the Colorado Rockies request a donation of $25 per autograph that goes to the Colorado Rockies Foundation, which is a charitable organziation, much the same as what the Tigers have. For the Rockies, it is an organizational commitment that they make to help better the community that they are a part of. A great idea if you ask me.
