Topps Sneaks Us A Peak At 2008 Allen and Ginter

Following on the heels of two consecutive Beckett Readers' Choice Awards for Product Of The Year, Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball returns in 2008 with the promise of being even bigger and better. From DNA cards to Cut Signatures, Rip Cards and Ancient Icons, Allen & Ginter is set to deliver the quirkiness, fun and collectability that collectors have come to love since its inception.

Here are some of the 2008 highlights that Topps is sharing for the first time:

    * DNA cards..an expanded list featuring pieces of hair from Abe Lincoln, JFK, Jackie O and Beethoven. There is even a dinosaur bone DNA card!

Autographs?the best list yet?tennis star Serena Williams, new hot dog eating champ Joey Chestnut and baseball stars David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez.

*Baseball Icons?features legendary baseball players from Topps recently announced CMG deal such as Lou Gehrig, Jackie Robinson and Ty Cobb.

*Relics?Big Foot Monster Truck's tire, Mark Spitz's speedo, A-Rod, Pujols and much more.

*Ancient Icons & World Leaders?Once again A&G features subjects from outside the baseball stadium and from around the world.

*The Ginter Code crack the code first and you will appear in the 2009 Allen & Ginter base set.

*Also look for Rip Cards, Originals, Cloth cards, Dick Perez Mini Paintings, N43 Box Loaders and Cabinet cards.

Look for more surprises to be announced as the product ramps up for release in mid-July.

    This set is just ODD.

<Autographs?the best list yet? new hot dog eating champ Joey Chestnut>

Kind of makes the metal musician sigs seem not so bad, eh?

Autograph cards of current players? That is the best list yet.

They're really going pop culture, aren't they? Ancient relics? I'll be searching for that pebble from Burnside Bridge from the battle of Antietam, myself.

I'm not impressed until they get a piece of Jimmy Hoffa

Well, the original 19th century Allen and Ginter cards did include non-baseball people in the set, and Topps is carrying that tradition.

MY biggest gripe with the A&G sets is how Topps spells out the numbers in words. Feh.

Don't tell anyone, but when I was there, I pocketed a few pebbles that were on (but not part of!) the bridge.

LOL! Well, yeah, I was never an A&G fan except for buying team sets or individual players. And the set just gets weirder by the year.

I don't know about you guys, but I like buying packs of baseball cards with....baseball cards in them, not monster truck tires. I wouldn't be happy or proud to pull a card like that. It's a tradition for A & G, sure, but there are limits....leave it to famous people at very least, forget famous machines.

At this point there are two Topps brands that I like: Bowman and Heritage. The others are either turning a little too unorthodox or are unfamiliar to me.

The DNA cards are a little much in my opinion. We don't need these to fall into the wrong hands and have some psycho with an army of cloned Abe Lincolns.
