  • Dimaggio autoraph....is it real?

I have this 8x10 of Joe Dimaggio that has been signed. It appears to have been done in blue ink, and the ink does not appear to be part of the picture, like a reprint might. I am no expert though, and am well aware of the amount of fakes out there. Just wanting some opinions on the authenticity of this autograph.

    Thanks,
    Dennis

It looks very much like his signature from the (late?)1990`s and has the typical blue ink.Dimaggio attended numerous autograph shows near the end of his life.I have heard that his sister Maria signed his signature quite a lot on items sent to Joe to sign.In his younger days and sometimes in his later years,he would spell Dimaggio as two words Di Maggio.Even the signature on his Louisville Sluggers(as well as on his driver`s license) would have Dimaggio as "Di Maggio"(I believe his restaurant in San Francisco even had that spelling). The signature on your picture looks very convincing, but only an expert could say for sure of course. He does seem to have signed his last name as Dimaggio rather than Di Maggio on the vast majority(maybe all)of memorabilia. If you look at his items on eBay you will see that his autograph looks just like the one you have.

Looks real to me, but if you want more peace of mind, I would suggest sending it to James Spence or another reliable authenticator.

Thanks for the opinions.....I have looked a his autographed pics on ebay, and have not been able to find this exact picture, which helps me think it may be real as a reprint might be relatively easy to find a duplicate somewhere. I have thought about sending it to be authenticated, but i have no intention on selling it, so if it is real, I believe they charge you a percentage of what it is valued at, and don't know if I want to pay just for the piece of mind.
