  • Mike D's 1989 TTM Auto Project

With my 1987 TTM Project wrapping up, it's time to start another project. Using the same multi-set system I have used a few times now, I'm going to start a project based on several 1989 sets I have.

The 1989 sets I'll be working with are:

    1989 Donruss Rookies - 56 cards

    1989 Fleer Update - 132 cards

    1989 Score Update - 110 cards

    1989 Topps Traded - 132 cards

That's 430 total cards. I'll break the cards up by team and work through each team to see who signs and will get requests.

I'll work through the teams in alphabetical order, which means we'll start with the Atlanta Braves. Hope you find this project enjoyable...hopefully we'll see a decent number of good signers and a lot of successes!

Note: I acquired the 1989 Donruss Rookies set some time after the others, so in some cases I had already sent cards along with requests from other projects. In those cases, I won't send another request with just the 1989 Donruss Rookies card.

Let's take a closer look at the signing habits of each player:

Keith Moreland has a 65% success rate, and seems to be signing recently c/o the Cubs. I'll give him a try there.

Pete Harnisch has a 71% success rate on SCN. We sent this card to him along with the 1990 send-out project. The resulting success can be seen here.

Let's take a closer look at the signing habits of each player:

Donn Pall has an 89% success rate on SCN. We sent the 1989 Score Update card to him as part of the 1990 send-outs, and had a success, which can be viewed here. We won't send the '89 DR card to him since we've already had a success from him.

                    Carlos Martinez
                    is deceased. RIP.

                    Ken Patterson
has a 67% success rate on SCN, but no successes since last April. Appears to have stopped signing.

Matt Merullo has a 96% success rate on SCN. We sent the 1989 Fleer Update card to him as part of the 1990 send-out, and had a success, which can be found here. We won't send the '89 DR card to him since we've already had a success from him.

Mark Davis has a 60% success rate on SCN. We'll pass on him. Interesting tidbit...Fleer seems to have confused him with the pitcher of the same name...on the card back, it shows the before/after AS break image for a pitcher.

Ron Kittle has a 93% success rate on SCN with recent successes. We'll send a request his way.

Steve Rosenberg has an 83% sucess rate on SCN with recent successes. We'll send a reqeust his way, as well.

                    Robin Ventura
has a 37% success rate on SCN, with no successes since 2009. We'll pass on him.
